GETTING TO WHAT'S POSSIBLE
What you focus on expands. So put your attention on what you want to experience, what you want to have, how you want the world to be. (And forget all about those things you don’t want.)
“When manifesting, the only question becomes: ‘How good can you stand it?’”
I recently heard this quote by Mary Hulnick and chuckled to myself. Indeed! The absolutely best, most amazing, whatever-you-can-imagine possibilities are out there waiting for you. You can literally have whatever you want – and then even better than that – beyond your wildest imagination something even better is available to you.
The wonderfulness isn’t handed to you or isn’t provided by someone else. It actually comes to you from your own doing – through the coherence of your mind, body, heart, and soul. It’s a testament to the incredible power within you.
But do you believe it? Can you feel this power within you? Do you know how to use it? Does it need to be summoned, practiced, and cared for?
I can hear the questions and protests now, because I’ve said them myself: how can that be true when I have so many struggles? If I was that powerful, wouldn’t I know it by now? And if everyone has this power, wouldn’t the world be mostly great, without a lot of hardship? Maybe it’s true theoretically that humans are powerful manifesting beings, but I’m sure that it takes a lot of time, education, and practice in order to be able to do it.
Be honest, you mostly don’t believe it, do you? Same here! Although I’m changing, opening to this phenomenon, playing with it in my life, and yes, starting to believe it.
When I identify something that continues to feel like a problem or a hurdle that’s out of my control, I am getting into the habit of asking first: what am I holding in my heart or mind that reinforces this struggle? When I make a positive statement of something I want, what is the automatic response – almost imperceptible – that my mind inserts?
For example, I want to travel more. I feel joy and adventure when I am moving through new surroundings. I feel exhilaration and freedom when I am on the open road. I can feel it in the depths of my being that I want more travel in my life.
But I’ve noticed that when I state that to myself, a series of beliefs pop in: it’s too expensive. You can’t afford the time away. Who will watch the dog and the house? Traveling alone is unsafe. I need to save my airline miles for something really important. Etc. etc.
So with all those protests going on in my head, do you think it’s easy and effortless to plan a trip? NO! It’s way easier to stay home. But that’s not what I want. I want the feeling of joy and freedom that I get when on a trip.
“The only thing standing between you and the life you want is the story you keep telling yourself about why you can’t have it.” - Dean Graziosi
In other words, your own limiting beliefs, thoughts, ideas, and fears are what stands in the way of your life of abundance and bliss!
The more that I tune into my automatic mindset and ingrained responses, the better I am able to intercept and change them.
“Ah there’s that old belief about how leaving home is harder than staying home. Do I really want to hold that belief right now? How would it feel to let it go?”
Usually it feels freeing. Lighter, more open, happier, easier, more in flow.
Feeling like I’m in the flow of life is definitely a state that I want to nurture.
Becoming aware of when and how you interrupt your own process of desire is an important step.
The follow-up action is then to restate what you want and then visualize it actually happening. This visualization can be through pictures in your mind and/or through feelings in your body.
What does it feel like when you think about having what you want? Your body will not lie to you. Try registering your bodily feelings as either a YES or a NO. Or either LIGHT or HEAVY. In this way you will hone the ability to listen to and trust the answers that your body provides to the questions you are asking.
ENERGY FOLLOWS ATTENTION & MATTER FOLLOWS ENERGY
Put your thoughts and feelings (attention) on what you want. Then the energy of your thoughts will manifest into your physical reality (matter).
If you focus on the problems, what’s wrong, what you are trying to solve or change, then all the energy of your thoughts goes into manifesting more of the same – in this case more of the problem – ugh! It’s said that our reality is like an obedient puppy – it goes where we tell it to go and it does what we tell it to do.
So cataloguing everything that we are “working on” or trying to “solve” or justifiably need to “complain about” may be creating more of the same problems and struggles.
Similarly, in horseback riding, you, the rider, should look in the direction that you want your horse to go. If you pull the reins one way, but are looking the other, the horse will be confused. We think it’s the action, i.e. the pulling of the reins that directs the horse, but it’s our focus and attention, i.e. where we are looking that is actually communicated to the horse.
USING YOUR FOCUSED ATTENTION TO CREATE YOUR BEST LIFE
Applying this to moving forward in life toward what you want (or how you want the world to be), are you focusing on the problems and what you don’t have already? Are you worried about the obstacles or mired in the unlikeliness of it happening to you? E.g. I may want to move to the beach. But it’s expensive, there aren’t enough jobs, they don’t have the stores that I like, and I’m not sure I will like the weather there.
What does the Universe hear? Show me expensive properties, poor job opportunities, limited shopping, and a forecast of rain. And that is what I will find when I look at living at the beach.
Whereas if I say: I love the days that are sunny at the beach, the locals have created many interesting small businesses, there are opportunities to make money wherever I go, and the perfect house is out there for me, then the Universe hears this positive description of possibility and will set about finding it for me.
Think in positives, not negatives. Instead of “I don’t want to be poor”, try “I want to have plenty.” Even better is to make it specific: “I want $200,000 to come to me by June 2024.”
Saying it is a good start. But when you FEEL the money coming in, and IMAGINE it in your bank account or paying for the things you wish to have/do with it, then you get the reinforcement of the embodiment of your desires.
This is truly powerful! But what if you run into some snags?
If you think you are saying what you want in all the right ways but nothing is happening, remember to pay close attention to the thoughts that accompany your desires. These may be subconscious thoughts that will find their way to the surface through your feelings.
Really pay attention to how your body feels after you state your desire. Any niggling feelings of resistance or heaviness is a sign that somewhere deep there is a counter-statement occurring which will always be listened to first before anything that’s happening in your conscious mind.
So what do you do to override the subconscious? Don’t resist it! Accept it as it comes. Breathe deeply. Tell yourself it’s ok to have some resistance to your dreams. Give yourself permission to hold those beliefs for as long as you feel they are needed, and permission to let them go when the time feels right.
By nurturing the guards of your subconscious, you allow a softening around the resistance which encourages the flow of energy to return. Once energy is flowing freely, the way will open up to let in your new request for change.
I hope you will play with this. Start asking yourself: what are all the ways that I can shift my focus more toward what I am wanting in myself and in the world around me?
And then step back and let the beautiful abundance flow in!
Love this!
What a fantastic reminder. This is how and why I'm associating with folks like you. I'm printing this one out and hanging on my wall. Thank you Dr. Julie.
